Frequently Asked Questions
- How can I submit my manuscript to Ginninderra Press?
We accept manuscript submissions across a variety of genres. Please visit our Submissions page, where you’ll find instructions on how to submit your manuscript. We will only contact you if your manuscript is accepted, at which time you will be presented with an offer of contract. This includes a full list of fees and services based on the specific requirements of your manuscript, noting that Ginninderra Press is a hybrid/fee-for-service publisher.
At certain times we may have reached capacity in which case the submissions portal will be closed for a stated period. - What does it mean that Ginninderra Press is a fee-for-service publisher?
In order for Ginninderra Press to survive in challenging market conditions, we require that authors help subsidise the cost of publication to ensure their book is produced to the highest quality standards. This includes the cover design, internal layout, file production, and bespoke marketing services. The fees are variable, depending on factors such as the length of your manuscript, whether your book includes illustrations, the level of editorial and creative input required, and any additional marketing or support services that may apply. - What are the author’s responsibilities during the publishing process?
As the author, you will be responsible for the following:
- Providing a complete manuscript by the agreed-upon date.
- Collaborating with Ginninderra Press during the production and marketing stages.
- Reviewing and approving the final proof of your book before it goes to print. Any errors not identified at this stage will be the author’s responsibility.
- Granting Ginninderra Press exclusive rights to publish and sell the book.
- Paying the Engagement Fee and any additional service fees outlined after your manuscript has been accepted.
- Committing to purchase a stipulated number of copies at the author discount upon publication.
- What will Ginninderra Press do as part of the publishing process?
As part of our fee-for-service publishing model, we will:
- Design the cover and layout of your book.
- Produce the book files for print-on-demand distribution to a global market, and ebook distribution where applicable.
- Set the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) based on your book’s length and design.
- Provide bespoke marketing services to help promote your book and increase its visibility, based on your specific needs.
- Register your book with an ISBN and manage its metadata.
- Assist with registration for library lending rights and other relevant copyright processes.
- How will royalties work?
Royalty payments will be made after your book has reached a minimum of 75 units sold via the Ginninderra Press website and/or through the retail sector. These payments will be calculated annually, and paid after the close of the fiscal year. Amounts less than $50 will be carried over until the following year.
Please note that royalties will not be paid on author copies purchased at a discount. - What rights do I retain over my book?
As the author, you retain full copyright over the content of your book. Ginninderra Press will hold copyright for the book’s printed layout and cover design. We will ensure that the copyright notice appears in your name on all copies of the work, and you are responsible for securing written permission for any third-party material used in your manuscript. - What happens if I want to make changes to my manuscript after acceptance?
Any significant changes to the manuscript after contract, will be at the publisher’s discretion. Depending on the nature of the changes and the status of production, fees may apply. Ginninderra Press will work closely with you during the production phase to ensure the best possible outcome, but we will not make any changes to the content or title without your consent unless necessary for formatting or adherence to our house style. - Will Ginninderra Press promote my book?
Ginninderra Press offers bespoke marketing services to help increase your book’s visibility. Your book will appear on the Ginninderra Press website, and will also be available for sale globally via Print-on-Demand distributor, Ingram Content Group. ANZ retailers and library suppliers can alternatively place orders via our appointed distributor, Woodslane or they can purchase from Ginninderra Press direct, at our wholesale discount.

While we will make every effort to promote your book, the success of these efforts can vary depending on factors such as market conditions, reader preferences, and the level of author activity, investment and engagement. We do not guarantee specific sales outcomes, but we strive to provide comprehensive support in the marketing of your book.
- What happens if my manuscript is not accepted?
We will not notify you unless your manuscript is accepted. You can expect to hear from us within 12-16 weeks. At any stage up until the offer of contract, you are welcome to explore other publishing options. - How long will the publishing process take?
The timeline for publishing depends on several factors, including the complexity of your manuscript and the level of design and production required, as well as our publishing schedule at any given time. We will work closely with you to ensure a timely publication, noting that the process generally takes between 6-10 months from the point of acceptance. - Can I withdraw my book from publication?
